Medicinal Applications
- Ertapenem is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of severe bacterial infections (for example, pneumonia, abdominal infections, skin infections, urinary tract/kidney infections).
Usage Instructions
- Follow all directions for proper mixing and dilution with the correct IV fluids.
- If you have questions regarding the use of this medication, consult your pharmacist.
- Inject this medication into a muscle (IM) or give by vein (IV) over 30 minutes in a saline solution usually once daily, or as directed by your doctor.
- The dosage and length of treatment is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.
- Do not mix this medication in dextrose-containing solutions (for example, D5W).
- If this medication is being given into a muscle (IM), follow all directions for mixing with an anesthetic solution (for example, lidocaine 1%).
- Doing so may help relieve some of the discomfort from the IM injection.
- Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level.
- Therefore, take this drug at evenly spaced intervals.
- Continue to take this medication until the full-prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days.
- Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection.
- Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve in 3 days.
- Before using, check this product visually for particles or discoloration.
- If either is present, do not use the liquid.
