Misoprostol Storage Instructions
- Store at room temperature and keep away from moisture and sunlight.
- Do not store in the bathroom.
Warning
- Use of this drug during pregnancy can cause abortion, premature birth, or birth defects.
- Rupture of the womb (uterus) has occurred in pregnant women using misoprostol to start labor, or when using it to cause abortion after the eighth week of pregnancy.
- Misoprostol should not be taken to reduce the risk of ulcers due to aspirin or related drugs (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen) if you are pregnant.
- This drug should not be used to reduce the risk of NSAID ulcers if you are of childbearing age, unless you are at high risk of having an ulcer, or ulcer complications.
- If a woman must use this, 4 requirements must be met.

- Do not allow anyone else to take this medication.
Medicinal Applications
- This medication is used to prevent ulcers in persons taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs, including aspirin), especially in persons at risk for developing ulcers or those with a history of ulcers.
- This medication is also used in combination with another drug to end a pregnancy (abortion).
What To Do In Case Of Missed Dose
- Take any missed dose as soon as possible but not if it is almost time for the next dose.
- If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule.
- Do not double the dose to catch up.
Possible Side Effects
- This medication causes diarrhea that usually stops after 8 days.
- Nausea, vomiting, stomach pains, gas, indigestion, or headache may occur.
- If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly.
- Tell your doctor immediately if these unlikely but serious side effects occur.

- Tell your doctor of all medicines you may use (both prescription and nonprescription) especially.
Overdose
- If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
- Symptoms of overdose may include sleepiness, tremors, seizures, difficulty breathing, stomach pain, diarrhea, fever, and slow heart rate.

- This medication is best taken with meals and at bedtime to minimize the incidence of diarrhea.
- Avoid taking magnesium-containing antacids such as Mylanta or Maalox while on this medication.

- Read antacid labels carefully to check for magnesium content.
- It is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed.
- Do not increase your dose or take more often than prescribed.
