Neomycin Sulfate Oral Storage Instructions

  • Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light.

  • Neomycin has been found to have an effect on lowering blood cholesterol levels when used alone or in combination with niacin.

Warning

  • This drug has caused kidney problems, nerve damage or permanent hearing loss, even at usual doses.
  • Hearing loss can occur even after the drug is stopped.
  • If you already have kidney problems or hearing difficulty, tell your doctor.
  • Notify your doctor immediately if any of the following occur.

Medicinal Applications

  • This medication is an antibiotic used before bowel surgery to prevent infection.
  • It is also used in the treatment of coma due to liver disease.

What To Do In Case Of Missed Dose

  • When used before bowel surgery, the doses are scheduled based on when the surgery will occur.
  • Therefore, it is important to take each dose as scheduled and follow the dietary restrictions and bowel cleaning procedures closely.
  • If you miss a dose of this medication or forget a step as outlined, consult your health care professional for advice on establishing a new schedule.
  • Do not "double-up" the dose of medication to catch up.
  • When used for coma, take the missed dose as soon as possible.
  • If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume regular dosing schedule.
