What To Do In Case Of Missed Dose
- It is important to use each dose as scheduled.
- If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember.
- If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- If you miss more than one dose, contact your health care provider to establish a new dosing schedule.
- Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
Usage Instructions
- This is given by injection into a muscle.
- It is usually given once a day for 2 to 4 months then reduced to 2 or 3 times a week depending on your condition and response.
- It is important to receive each dose as scheduled since antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level.
- It may be necessary to continue therapy for tuberculosis for 1 to 2 years.
- Stopping therapy too soon may result in ineffective treatment.

- Laboratory tests and hearing tests will be done periodically while using this.
- If needed, you may be switched to a drug for this same condition that can be taken by mouth.
Warning
- Use capreomycin with extreme caution in people with hearing or kidney problems.
- Other injectable medications used to treat tuberculosis (for example, streptomycin) should not be used with capreomycin because they will add to the hearing and kidney problems that can occur.
- Use extreme caution when using other drugs that also cause hearing or kidney problems (for example, aminoglycosides).
Medicinal Applications
- This medication is used in combination with other drugs to treat tuberculosis infections.
Capreomycin Sulfate Intramusc. Storage Instructions
- Store unopened vials at room temperature between 59 to 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C).
- Once reconstituted the solution is good for 48 hours at room temperature or 14 days refrigerated.
- The color of the reconstituted solution may run from near-colorless to a pale-straw tint.
- Color may darken over time but this does not indicate a loss of potency.
Overdose
- If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
- Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, sensation that the room is spinning, ringing in the ears, and loss of ability to hear high tones.
Possible Side Effects
- This may cause pain or irritation at the injection site.
- If it continues or swelling, redness or bleeding occur, inform your doctor.
